Shepparton United have been awarded the A Grade netball Elimination Final played against Mooroopna last Sunday at Kyabram.
The result could not be confirmed on the day due to inaccuracy with the official scorebook, as 3 goals were incorrectly awarded to United instead of Mooroopna in the first quarter.
This meant that Mooroopna was officially recorded as being 9 goals down during the first quarter when the correct difference was 3 goals.
It is acknowledged that this caused significant angst and confusion amongst players, club officials and spectators from both sides when the score was changed on the scoreboard.
League Chairman David Roff apologized for any distress caused to Mooroopna and for confusion that affected a number of people.
“The process of having host club score the games has been successful for the past (30 years), but we will review all options in an endeavour to ensure that this situation will never happen again."
"It was a great achievement for Mooroopna to be playing in their first A grade final in over 30 years and I am sorry that issues with scoring clouded what has been a sustained effort by the club as a whole to build their netball program."
'The Board also appreciates Shepparton United’s assistance with this enquiry and stress that there has been no impropriety on behalf of United at any time either during or after the game.”
The League has also taken the opportunity to confirm that following a game between Mansfield and Seymour in Round 17, won by Mansfield 54 - 33, the 4 points were deducted from Mansfield for playing an unregistered player and that these points were not awarded to Seymour.
The League Bylaws do not provide for the points to be awarded to the other team and this is the way the same issue has been treated in the past. The league will review the By Law in the off season to see if any change is warranted. Seymour finished 6th at the end of the home and away series, won their first final against Shepparton Swans and will continue in the finals this weekend.
