NEWS: Surf Coast leaves it to final round to qualify for Men’s Div 1 Finals’ Series

SURF Coast has made it into the Top Four of the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1 competition after recording an emphatic 8-1 victory over Lara United at Banyul Warri Reserve in the final round of last weekend. Its cause was helped by the fact that the previously 4th placed Barwon was defeated 4-0 by League Champions Geelong Rangers.

The Coasters left it late to qualify for the Finals’ Series, but they managed to secure their spot in the top four after sealing the three points which allowed them to leapfrog Barwon into fourth spot on the table.
Eric Lawrence scored Lara’s only goal while Surf Coast’s goalscorers were not submitted to the Sports TG site.
Reigning champions Barwon couldn’t keep its their place in the Top Four after their loss to Geelong Rangers in a replay of last season’s Grand Final.
It must be mentioned, however, that Barwon did an exceptional job to get to where it did after its two top ranked sides migrated to the State League 5 metropolitan competition.
A double from Nicholas Hogan and a goal each from Scott Davison and Joao Ramos for the league winners helped the Rangers to victory against Barwon.
Rangers end the season with 47 points and a +68 goal difference while Barwon ends the season with 29 points and a -6 goal difference.
Surfside Waves sealed Barwon Heads’ sport at the foot of the table after they defeated the home side 3-0 at Barwon Heads Village Park.
Two goals from Matthew Sheen and a goal from Tyler Dittloff helped to secure the three points for the already confirmed second placed outfit.
The Ocean Grove based Surfside ends the regular season with a total of 37 points and a -28 goal difference while Barwon Heads end the season with the wooden spoon and relegation to next season’s Division 2 competition.
Corio ended the season with a strong 4-0 win over Deakin Ducks at Deakin University.
Goals from Veseljko Graovac, Aleksander Vuksa and a brace from Dejan Rasic secured the three points for the Hume Reserve based outfit which ended its first season in the local league’s elite division in 3rd position on the table while the Ducks finish in 8th spot.
In the final game, the Drysdale and Breakwater match was forfeited by the Eagles, resulting in Drysdale being handed a 3-0 win.
