DEAKIN Ducks defeated their traditional rivals Drysdale SC 3-1 at the Deakin University Waurn Ponds campus on Saturday afternoon in the only Women’s Division 1 catch up game played last weekend.

Deakin didn’t have any issues in taking the three points as Caitlin Bishop scored one while teammate Hannah Gordon scored a brace for the Ducks. Lauren Salaviejus scored Drysdale’s only goal for the day.
The result means that the Ducks remain 2nd in the league standings with 27 points, while Drysdale remains in 5th spot on the league table with a total of 16 points.
The Drysdale Men’s Division 1 team didn’t have much luck over the weekend either, as they were comprehensively defeated by recently crowned league champions Geelong Rangers 2-7 at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct on Sunday.
The result didn’t mean anything for Rangers, as they had already mathematically won the league title. However, they didn’t take the foot off the pedal as Darren McCallum contributed four goals to the Rangers’ goal tally, while Stuart Begg, Scott Davison and Nicholas Hogan all added a goal apiece to Rangers haul of seven goals.
The two consolation goals for Drysdale were scored by Dougie Weeks and Alistair Hancock.
This means that Drysdale wasn’t able to move above Lara United on the ladder, while Rangers added another three points to their season total.
On Friday night, Barwon easily accounted for bottom side Breakwater Eagles, running out 3-1 winners at Grovedale Reserve.
Mark Lawn netted a double, while Keak Joak scored a single for the winners, while Germain Spriet found the back of the net for the Eagles.
Barwon fronted up less than 48 hours later for its catch up game with Corio and despite their best efforts, the Blue and Whites narrowly lost the clash with the northern suburbs’ Eagles. Corio increased its chances of a top four finish as they defeated Barwon 1-0 at Grovedale Reserve.
Just the one goal from Adam Kumcevski was enough to seal the three points for Corio, which has left them four points clear of 5th placed Barwon with just three matches to go of the regular season.
