GEELONG Rangers returned to winning ways in merciless fashion in the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1 competition after annihilating Barwon Heads 13-0 at Barwon Heads Village Park last Friday night.

The emphatic Round 15 triumph was an important win for the visitors as they hadn’t won since Round 11 after two draws and a loss in the previous three games. Brendan White scored one goal while Connor Mackus, Fraser Mackus and Nicholas Hogan all scored doubles for the visitors. Matthew Long was the star of the show, contributing four goals to Rangers’ goal tally.

The valuable three points has helped Rangers open up a five-point gap between themselves and Surfside Waves, who lost their game against Barwon at Shell Road Reserve also on Sunday.

The Waves have now lost two games in a row after they were defeated by the 5th placed Barwon.

James Nichols scored the deciding goal for Barwon, which saw them take home the three points against the Ocean Grove outfit.

Barwon has shown some good form in recent weeks, having not being defeated for five rounds with four wins and a draw.

Drysdale was defeated Surf Coast 3-0 at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct on Sunday, which helped the Coasters maintain their 3rd spot on the league table.

The Coasters have now accumulated 28 points for the season and are two points ahead of 4th placed Corio.

Deakin and Breakwater shared the spoils in a shock result at the White Eagle House after the closely fought match finished 2-2.

Jordan Lyons and Thomas Wilson both scored goals for the Eagles, which helped their team to grab only their second competition point of the season.

Unfortunately, Deakin’s goalscorers were not submitted by the club.

Breakwater remains rock bottom on the table with two points, while Deakin are currently 6th on the table with 23 points.

In the final game of the round at Lara Recreation Reserve, the game between Lara United and Corio was abandoned with Corio leading 3-2 and with approximately 15-20 minutes left to go.

Aleksander Vuksa, Dragan Plavsic and Carson Millar all scored a goal apiece for Corio, while Lara’s goalscorers were not submitted by the club.

The FFV is currently investigating the matter.
