GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League teams are standing up, speak out and act to stop violence against women in their community this weekend.
The GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League is helping prevent the cycle of violence against women by hosting a White Ribbon round in Round 16 to raise funds and awareness for White Ribbon Australia.
GOTAFE GVL Chairman David Roff is proud of the stance the League is taking on this important issue.
“Sport is a critical channel for raising awareness of the importance of respectful relationships across Australian communities” he said.
“Millions of men, women, boys and girls are involved in sport at some point in their lives.”
“It is so important that the prevention of family violence is incorporated to reach further into the community and highlight a sporting culture based on respect and inclusion.”
“This round, the GOTAFE GVL is taking a stand by holding a White Ribbon Match to stand up and speak out and to prevent the cycle of abuse in our community. We will not remain silent.”
“The feature White Ribbon game in this round is the Euroa v Echuca game to be played at Euroa’s Memorial Oval on Saturday 4 August and players in all games over the split round will also wear white armbands in support of White Ribbon.”
“The feature round is a partnership between the League, Euroa FNC and Council so we are grateful for the support of Strathbogie Shire in presenting such an important message in the community.”
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Amanda McClaren said Council has supported White Ribbon Australia for the past six years and have partnered with the Euroa Football Netball Club and the Goulburn Valley League to host this year’s White Ribbon Match.
“Strathbogie Shire Council is deeply committed to raising awareness about the importance of respectful relationships and preventing violence in our communities” she said.
“We want people to know that violence against women is everyone’s issue and it is unacceptable.”
Funds raised go towards supporting White Ribbon’s national primary prevention campaign, which aims to stop violence before it occurs, through education initiatives in schools, workplaces and the broader community.
White Ribbon is committed to building an Australian community where every woman lives in safety, free from all forms of men’s abuse.
