THE battle for top spot in the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1 competition has been narrowed to just one point after leaders Rangers dropped valuable points against third placed Surf Coast with the game finishing in a 2-2 draw.

Nicholas Hogan and Troy Hardy scored a goal apiece for Rangers but it wasn’t enough to get their team back to winning ways as Surf Coast kept it all square at Banyul Warri Reserve.

Rangers remain top of the table, however, there is now only a one-point gap between themselves and Surfside Waves.

On the plus side, Rangers still have a game in hand on both Surfside and Surf Coast.

At Shell Road Reserve on Friday night, second placed Surfside hosted Lara United, with the Waves coming away from the clash with all three points as they comfortably defeated the visitors 3-0.

Luis McClelland, Andrew Stevenson and Adrian Bond contributed to their team’s victory with a goal apiece which helped Surfside to secure the three points.

Also on Friday night, Deakin Ducks defeated Barwon Heads 6-0 at Barwon Heads Village Park to leapfrog Lara into 6th spot on the standings.

Samuel Sewell scored four goals for the Ducks while Patrick Lickiss and Matthew Jordan also registered a goal each for the visitors.

On Sunday afternoon, the points were shared at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct as the home team Drysdale drew 1-1 with the visiting Barwon.

Cooper McCormack scored Barwon’s only goal for the game. Unfortunately, Drysdale’s scorer was not submitted to the SportsTG site.

Drysdale remain 8th on the table with 15 points while Barwon is in 5th spot on the league standings with 20 points.

Corio made it three wins from three games after easily defeating bottom of the table outfit Breakwater Eagles 6-0 at the White Eagle House on Sunday afternoon.

Dragan Plavsic, Miki Potpara, Aleksander Vuksa, Zoran Bunicic, Dragan Samardzic and Daniel Tadic all contributed with singles apiece to their team’s 6-0 romp over the home side.

The result leaves Corio in 4th position on the league table with 21 points while the young and inexperienced Eagles remain rock bottom with just one point.
