NEWS: Inaugural Geelong All Abilities league kicks off with training in Northern/Southern Hubs

THE INAUGURAL Geelong Region All Abilities Football League, which caters for people with an intellectual or physical disability, kicked off on the weekend with six local clubs participating in a series of initial training sessions over three weeks, which will precede a four round competition season in August and early September.

The initial three week training block will see Barwon, Drysdale and Surfside Waves coordinate joint training sessions in the Southern Zone Hub, while the Northern Zone Hub will comprise teams from Bell Park, Geelong Rangers and Lara United.

This combined zonal training arrangement will enable coaches of the teams to see the capacity of their players and be able to learn together and develop drills and coaching techniques which will be suitable for their respective groups.

We need volunteers to donate just an hour of their time on one of the following weekends to be a game helper or team assistant with our newest team.

The All Abilities League will have collective training sessions for the following weeks:

Saturday 28th July

Northern Hub Host – Lara

Southern Hub Host – Surfside Waves

Saturday 4th August

Northern Hub Host – Geelong Rangers,

Southern Hub Host – Barwon

Games will be held on the following weeks:

Saturday 11th August

Northern Hub Host – Bell Park,

Southern Hub Host – Drysdale

Saturday 18th August

Northern Hub Host – Lara,

Southern Hub Host – Surfside Waves

Saturday 25th August

Northern Hub Host – Geelong Rangers,

Southern Hub Host – Barwon

A new concept for the Geelong region, the All Abilities League will enter its first season with significant sponsorship backing from GenU, TAC, Vic Health and the logistical support of Leisure Networks.

The shortened inaugural season is set to culminate on Saturday 1st of September with a special Gala Day, which will bring together all six teams from both Hubs
