By: Lachlan SHIRLEY

KARDINIA College has come away with just its second victory of the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 season after defeating Surf Coast 5-2 in Round 12 action at Banyul Warri Reserve last weekend.

A memorable hat-trick from Stephanie Cameron and singles by Holly Ryan and Caelli Wood helped to secure the important victory for the visiting ‘Students’.

Kardinia has now lifted itself off last position after the victory and is now two points ahead of Surf Coast, who has replaced Kardinia in last position.

Bell Park has now lost its last two games after being defeated by the visiting Barwon 1-2 at Bell Park Sports Club on Saturday.

Michaela Buchanan opened the scoring for Barwon before Elizabeth Sarcevic scored an equalizer to make it 1-1 at the break. But it wasn’t enough to secure a point as Jessica Kenyon scored what turned out to be winner for the Blue and Whites in the second half.

Barwon is currently second on the table with 19 points. Six points separate them from top of the table Geelong Rangers however the league leaders, who had a bye this round, have a game in hand.

In the final match of the round at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct, the visiting Deakin Ducks defeated the hosts Drysdale 1-0 in a closely contested clash.

Just the one first half goal from the Ducks was enough to secure the victory over the home team who couldn’t find an equalizer. Unfortunately the name of the goalscorer was not submitted by the club.

Deakin is 3rd on the table with 17 points, just two points behind Barwon. The Ducks also have a game in hand on Barwon. Meanwhile, Drysdale is 5th on the standings with 14 points and are comfortably seven points ahead of 6th placed Kardinia.
