Hi All, What a year 2017 has been! I am sure you are all going to enjoy a well earned break and are hopefully looking forward to a new and exciting basketball year in 2018. 2017 saw 2 great seasons of basketball with massive improvements in competition standards. The introduction of the Super 8's has seen an influx of children remaining in basketball after completing the Aussie Hoops program and has helped to transition these youngsters into competition type games before Under 10's. We will continue with Under 10 - Division 1 and 2 next year. This year has also seen Stage 1 of the facility improvements and we look forward to continuing work on the venue in the new year. 2017 saw some exciting representative results from U14 Cyclones teams, school sports teams and clubs teams who travelled overseas. 2018 has some exciting events in store with the Australian School Sports tournament being played in Darwin in August. There has been some changes to the seasons for 2018 which are explained further below and introduction of some new competitions in line with other states. I hope you all have an enjoyable Christmas, Happy New Year and don't forget to register for 2018 Season 1 as early as possible as registrations are now open to help your club organise teams! Merry Christmas....Regards Kerri |

BNT Fees - BNT or Basketball Northern Territory is the peak body of our sport in the Territory. Each state and/or Territory has a peak body which works with the National Body (BA or Basketball Australia) to maintain and improve our sport. Each peak body has fees associated with administration and program delivery and also includes player insurance. The BNT fee has previously been incorporated in the DBA fee, and was $33. The fee will now be increased to $49.50 and will be purchased separately upon initial registration and is payable yearly as a compulsory fee (regardless of how many seasons you play). "Basketball Northern Territory have increased the fee to associations for each registered member for the following reasons:
- To ensure a break even budget;
- To take into account the reduction in funding from the NT Government;
- To provide services to the associations and consequently members; and
- To continue to run national/peak programs, including Aussie Hoops, Sporting Schools, National Club Competition and National Pathway Competitions.
In order to achieve the break even budget, the increase is reflective of a combination of a reduction in funding from the NT Government and of not having increased the fee previously to a level consummate to the financial requirements of the organisation. After the Governance Review Project, the outlined financial benefits in shared costs across several cost centres was not achieved, and as a direct result the costs to Basketball NT continue. As part of the increase, and with the introduction of the National Registration System, the costs to the member will be taken once in the calendar financial year and will allow that member insurance coverage nationally, across multiple associations, peak/territory based competitions and will provide the associations with their current affiliation benefits" - BNT Board DBA Fees - Darwin Basketball Association (DBA) fees are set each year by the Board and take into account Competition costs, maintenance and repairs, facility upgrades, administration etc. Last year, they were set at $100 per season (Juniors) and $115 (Seniors) and made good use of the NT Sports vouchers (as credit cannot be given for these). In previous years they have included the $33 BNT fee, however this year they do not include that fee but will remain the same $100 (for Juniors) to ensure the NT sports vouchers can be used, however there will be reductions in other areas to offset this. The $5 pre registration which was compulsory has been dropped. The Senior fee for 2018 will be reduced to $85. DBA game fees - DBA game fees are used to pay the running costs of the games. In 2017 the game fees were $8 Juniors, Seniors were $13 and League was $15. For 2018 the Junior game fees will be reduced to $7. Seniors and League will remain the same as there was a reduction in DBA fees. Club Fees - Clubs set their own fees. 100% of the club fees go to the club to assist with court hire, presentations, uniforms etc. Clubs are entirely responsible for setting these fees and various clubs include various benefits. If you have any enquiries on Club fees please contact your clubs. ONE PAYMENT - Sporting Pulse is now being utilised to collect all tiers payments in one transaction. The BNT fee of $49.50 will be compulsory for ALL players. The DBA Senior fee will also be compulsory for ALL players over U18's. The Junior payment of $100 will be preset as $0 for Sports Voucher utilisation, however if you DONT want to use your Sports Voucher you will need to select the $100 option also. Club fees will all be compulsory. If you have an additional training fee for your club please select and pay it also to avoid club follow up and penalties. **ALL SPORTS VOUCHERS WILL BE EXPECTED TO BE HANDED IN DURING FEB AND MARCH** |

Did you know DBA, as a foundation member receives a dividend from the CAS Club? Did you know this is dependent on our support? In order to maximise our share it is important that we as DBA Members show our support and loyalty. This year we received the least of the Foundation clubs, as we supported the least. We need to improve this! ALL DBA members receive FREE membership! Every time you visit, buy a drink, have a meal or use the bottle shop - it is important that you swipe your card! We have DBA Temporary Membership cards and Membership application forms at the office and courtside! Please support the club that supports you! |

The Season Changes are in line with other sports and other Basketball Associations in Australia. It enables people to play basketball in line with other sports or select to play just one season. It makes it more affordable for people who may only want to play one season. It enables new members to join basketball after they complete other sports seasons (ie September and April) The Long season is a "once off" from Feb to Sept and will then be Sept to April and April to September. The Christmas break in 2018 is a break for ALL! Because it is during the season there is no additional work for club volunteers over this break and enables coaches, administrators and club volunteers to have a real break. Age changes will be in September each year. |

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
