Football rounds the final bend this week, representative season all but over, just the State Under 15 and Under 17 champs left, and the finals light at the end of the tunnel burning brightly. This week Mid West is playing MAC Road Safety Round, recognising safety on our roads, particularly important in our area given the distances that we travel!
Elliston v Western Districts at Elliston
The Roosters have landed themselves back in second spot, and look great as they build towards a tilt at the serious end of the year. The Tigers in the midst of a “nearly” sort of season, in every game but losing in close heart break too often. Tough road trip to the home of the Roosters anytime, let alone when the Elliston boys are rolling the wins in.
Last outing a serious hit out against the Bombers, and the Roosters came out with flying colours, even missing key players. Look out for Jordan Newton, Otis Carter, Peter Carter, Del Miller all big ins to the side that is starting to look the real deal in 2018. Plenty of scoring options, and a winning midfield that propels the ball forward time and again. Ben Hurrell getting game time, along with Steve Paul heading a mean defence, Glen Tonkin a key go to man forward. Gorn Tree is clever with the footy, a great centre of gravity sees him on his feet whatever the pressure and a tackling machine. Liam Newton a wonderful State Country Carnival, strong in the contest every week, the run and carry of Joe Burgoyne is nothing short of breath taking.
The Tigers have a well settled side, and really threaten every game. A big congratulations to Coach Scotty Feltus, named the Coach of the Carnival after winning the cup, but back to business this week. Damon King is the number one target going forward, pack marking and strong, his presence will be huge this week. Ethan Thompson back this week, and needing game time to get up to the great player that he is. Ever reliable Kade Gill and Tobyn Lennell important cogs if the Tigers are to challenge here. Zane Montgomerie plays tall and very mobile. The run of Bradyn King and Charlie Williams so important to the side.
This should be an entertaining encounter, and so important for both sides seasons fortunes, Elliston a double chance and Districts the finals. Elliston star Tom Rumbelow is back in town, and it is amazing how often the Roosters win when he is there. The Elliston sheer scoring potential looks hard to counter for the Tigers at Elliston
Elliston 20 -30
