The inaugural Open Men’s Social 7s competition is a partnership between the City of Greater Geelong and Football Federation Victoria and is played on half a pitch with six players and a goalkeeper taking to the field.
The Winter season kicked off on Monday night with the opening round’s clash between the Raw Prawns Reserves and Komiti FC. The evening saw six of the seven founding teams play.
FFV Club Ambassador Foddy Kyprian was in attendance at the opening game and was impressed with what he saw.
“There could not have been a better night, weather wise, for the start of the Social 7s league. It was great to see quite a few of the players that have given up playing in the weekend competitions, coming back to the Round Ball game,” said Kyprian.
Leisuretime Sports Precinct’s Venue Manager Brad Roberts said that the competition was a great result for the venue and community as a whole’.
“Along with FFV, the staff here have been working really hard to get this competition up and going and it’s so great to see our brand new $2m facility being used for competition so quickly,” Roberst said.
“Best of all, this is a competition that is specifically focused on getting individuals involved who aren’t already involved in football,” he added.
