On Friday 25th May, the fourth season of the Under 17 Women’s School & Club Competition kicked off with the DDu17W 4.0 to be more competitive than ever before.
Although the competition hasn’t seen expansion through teams, the overall participation numbers are set to soar with the competition going from 9-a-side matches to 16-a-side. The competition will go from a modified field to full field, with more AFLW inspired school students taking up the game.
AFL Queensland Regional Manager for the Darling Downs, Jeff Neumann, said everyone is excited ahead of season 4.0.
“It is a very exciting time ahead of the new season, with all six teams stepping up their preparations,” Regional Manager Neumann told aflq.com.au
“Downlands College are the team to beat with the back to back premiers retaining a majority of their 2017 squad.
“The competition includes three school teams and three club teams, with the Glennie School, Harristown State High School, South Toowoomba Bombers, Toowoomba Tigers and University Cougars all looking to collect their first premiership,” Neumann added.
The season was officially launched at the Norfolk Room at Concordia Lutheran College in late May with over sixty in attendance. Round one officially started on May 25 a re-match of last year’s Grand-Final as Downlands College take on Harristown State High School.
