The VIP guests who addressed the gathering, included Victorian State Sports Minister and local MP John Eren, GRFC chairperson Jo Plummer and the President of the Football Federation Victoria Kimon Taliadoros.
It was hard working Kimon’s second visit to Geelong in as many days, after he was a special guest at the David Cervinski Benefit Testimonial dinner the previous evening which was organised by the North Geelong Warriors FC.
Minister Eren shared his own experiences with the Country Championships, having gone through the entire process with his own kids, while Mr Taliadoros told the young rep team members of the immense benefits and friendships the sport of football can bring them, recounting his own personal experiences as a former Socceroo and current football administrator.
The Geelong Region will be represented by a record number of teams at this year’s Victorian Country Championships, which will be held this coming Queen’s Birthday long weekend in Shepparton.
Three Girls’ teams will take part (U12s, U14s and U16s), while there will be a total of seven Boys’ teams (U11s North, U11s South, U12s, U13s, U14s, U15s, U16s) participate at the annual tournament.
We wish them all the best in Shepparton!
