Under 12’s action this week saw Port Macquarie Magpies at home to ladder leaders Camden Haven Bombers. The Magpies were coming off 2 great wins and were confident of pushing the Bombers in this match. After an even 1st quarter the Bombers showed their experience and skill and were able to run away with the win. It was a great effort by the young magpies who continue to show great improvement in the lead up to the finals. The Bombers showed why they are hot favourites to defend their title with a strong performance.
The other under 12 match saw Macleay Valley Eagles host Port Macquarie Power at Services Club Park. The game got off to an explosive start with the Power finishing the 1st Quarter 1 goal up. In the second and third quarters the Power kicked away to a 6 goal lead. The Eagles showed some perserverence and skill to come back in the last quarter but all was too late with the Power winning the game 7 goals 3 behind (45) to the Eagles 3 goals straight (18).
In the U14’s it was a much anticipated return clash between Macleay Valley Eagles and Wauchope Kangaroos after a close encounter way back in round 3. Both teams were evenly matched with the AFL flowing from one end to the other. Half time saw the score Kangaroos 21 and Eagles 2, with the Eagles unable to convert some good opportunities inside 50. In the second half the Eagles surged but were unable to hold their opponents with the final score being Kangaroos 65 Eagles 18.
The second Under 14’s match saw the much awaited clash between Port Macquarie Magpies and Camden Haven Bombers. With a number of under 14 players away, the Magpies Under 12’s stepped up and showed great courage and skills against their bigger opponents. The game certainly lived up to the expectation with both teams showing great skills, tackling and team work. The Magpies who have dominated the competition all year were ready for a much tougher challenge against a bombers team that has recruited well over the last couple of months. The Magpies were able to maintain their lead throughout the first half going in 10 points in front. The start of the 2nd half saw the Bombers kick the first goal to get within 4 points before the Magpies were able to kick away again and come away with the win.
