TRFM Gippsland League senior interleague coach Harmit Singh has named a strong line-up for Saturday’s Worksafe Community Championships showdown with Murray Football League at Ted Summerton Reserve.
Past Victoria Country representatives Bob McCallum and Mark Collison once again head the list, while reigning league best and fairest and experienced interleague campaigner James Blaser will make his first appearance since 2014.
Former Ellinbank and District Football League representatives Kody Wilson and Eddie Morris and former Alberton Football Netball League representatives Shannon Bray and Luke Bowman will pull on the red, white and blue for the first time, with nine players in line to make their senior interleague debut.
The youth is balanced by experience, with nearly 40 senior representative caps among the rest of the squad.
Seven of the league’s 10 clubs are represented, led by Traralgon with seven players, Moe with five and reigning premier Leongatha with four.
Just nine players from last year’s team that fell short against AFL Yarra Ranges at Woori Yallock will pull on the boots against Murray.
Murray has finalised its team, with mobile big men Brodie A’Vard and Brodie Ross, power forward Angus Grigg and classy small forward Farran Priest among the prime movers.
A’Vard, Tyone Downie and Tom Nihill were among Murray’s best players in last year’s 22-point win against Wimmera Football Netball League that will line up again at Moe on Saturday.
The TRFM Gippsland League’s under-18 football and open netball representative teams have also been named.
Saturday’s senior football game kicks off at 1:00pm, following the under-18 football curtain-raiser at 10:30am, while on the netball courts the open game starts at 12:00pm.
