Armadale punish Sorrento mistakes
Report by Chris Alvaro
Sorrento slipped into the bottom three of the National Premier Leagues WA ladder after Armadale inflicted their sixth loss in seven games at Alfred Skeet Reserve on Saturday.
A volley from Chris Jackson after only five minutes put the home side ahead and they doubled their lead not long after when Jackson fed Josh Kuser, who stuck the ball into the bottom corner.
Sorrento's heads didn't drop and they pulled one back midway through the second half when Cameron Teece's shot was turned into his own goal by Charlie Kenna.
And the Gulls almost levelled through Jason Roberts' free-kick but Armadale keeper Sam Hutchings pulled off an excellent save, to the delight of the vociferous home support.
Armadale are now eighth and coach John O'Reilly described their 2-1 win as "a solid team effort".
He said: "I wish we'd put the game to bed but I'm happy with the result."
Disappointed Sorrento coach Jamie Harnwell said his side couldn't afford to give away a 2-0 half-time lead and expect to get anything out of the game.
He said: "We talked about our defending after the Bayswater game but we are just not good enough at the moment."
Sorrento face Floreat Athena at Percy Doyle Reserve next Saturday afternoon while Armadale are at home to Cockburn City in a 6pm kick-off.
