NEWS: Geelong region Women’s Division 1 – Round 3 Preview
By: Lachlan SHIRLEY
LOOKING ahead to another exciting weekend of football in the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 competition, it looks like ideal playing conditions will greet the players for Round 3 on Saturday when Kardinia College plays its first match of the season.
Kicking off the round’s action at 1pm, 3rd placed Barwon will host 4th placed Geelong Rangers at Grovedale Reserve.
Barwon will be hoping for its first win of the season after only coming away with a point last week and having a bye the week before. Rangers will be hoping to maintain their winning ways after coming away with a 4-1 victory over Drysdale last week.
At Kardinia International College in Bell Post Hill, the home side will take on close neighbors Bell Park in what will be Kardinia’s first game for the season after having byes in the two opening rounds.
Newly promoted Bell Park will be hoping to capture all three points this week to maintain its lofty position at the (equal) top of the league, while the ‘Students’ will be hoping for an equally positive start to its season.
At Banyul Warri Reserve in Torquay, Drysdale will face Surf Coast at 3pm.
Last season’s minor premiers Drysdale will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Rangers and a 1-2 loss to Bell Park in Round 1. A victory against the Coasters would be a much-needed confidence boost for the team after a rough start to the season.
Surf Coast, on the other hand, will be hoping for its first victory of the season as they drew 2-2 with Bell Park and had a bye in the opening round.
Deakin Ducks have the bye this weekend.
