In recent months, discussions between Football Federation Victoria (FFV) and representatives from Gen U (formerly Karingal) and Leisure Networks has resulted in the proposal for a new eight team Geelong Region All-Abilities Football League.
Barwon, Bell Park, Corio Bay, Drysdale, Geelong Rangers, Lara United, Surf Coast and Surfside Waves have all expressed an intent to field teams in the fledgling new competition, which will involve a seven-a-side format and will be played outdoors.
On Saturday morning, there will be a registration marquee for all interested players to sign up as well as various stands and information booths. There will also be an opportunity to take part in fun filled and informal small sided games.
The new competition will initially be a seniors’ league for anyone aged 14 years and up and has any form of disability.
It would not be gender specific and is expected to be staged on Saturday mornings, when pitch availability around the region would be at its best.
If you know of someone with a disability who is keen to get out and give football a go, please advise them of Saturday’s registration day.
Saturday’s Registration/’Come and Try’ Day at Steampacket Gardens kicks-off at 10:30am and will run through til 12:30pm.
