NEWS: FFV introduces U12 Pilot 9v9 format for 2018 competition season
FOR THE 2018 Geelong Region competition season, Football Federation Victoria (FFV) will introduce the change to a 9v9 Pilot Competition Format for all the region’s community based U12 competitions, both boys and girls. FFV will be monitoring the U12 Geelong competition to ensure the most appropriate model of 9v9 football is introduced for statewide community competitions for 2019 and beyond.
This modified version of football maintains the integrity of the game while allowing each child access to a structured competition that supports and aligns with their stage of skill progression and physical make up.
The 9 v 9 format of the game has been modelled on the 2017 FFV NPL model for under 12 football, which emphasises skill development through matches that are proportional to the child’s physical capabilities.
FFV wishes to remind all team coaches of the aim behind the implementation pilot U12 program. The aim is to increase the focus on player development, through providing challenges that are proportion to the players stage of physical development.
With this, coaching methods are to align with the goals of the program being to allow each child the chance to participate and grow their ability through lowering their absolute focus on the result of the game.
This move to pilot the Under 12 9v9 model has also been endorsed by the Geelong Region Football Committee (GRFC).
