City Continue Perfect Start

Launceston City have continued their perfect start to the season with a 4 – 1 win over Clarence United at Buckby Landrover Park. City were dominant from the outset and were well deserving of their victory.

City opened the scoring in the 25th minute through 2017 NPL Rising Star Noah Mies who continued his rich vein of goal scoring form. Liam Scott played a long ball from the back to Tyler Fischer who played a dangerous ball across the box, it was beaten away by Jason Voss, but only as far as Mies who controlled on his right and finished expertly into the bottom left.

Scott would play a major part in City’s second goal as well, when in the 38th minute he played another beautiful long ball over the top for Fischer. Fischer snuck in on the blindside of the defender pinched the ball and finished cooly on his right foot past the on rushing Voss. City went into the break comprehensively in control two to the good.

The sun emerged for the first time all day at the start of the second half, and City continued from where they finished off the first half. Jazza Linger would score his first goal of the season in the 56th minute. City went from one end to other in a matter of seconds, the ball would find its way to Harrison Wicks on the wing, he whipped in a nice early ball which was cleared straight to Linger who controlled on his chest brought the ball down, and placed the ball perfectly in the corner out of the reach of Voss to put City up 3 nil.

Just moments later City would have four when Daniel Syson got the ball rolling for Fischer who touched forward and struck a vicious blow on goal. The ball bounced a metre in front of Voss, it skidded viciously in the moist conditions and the ball blasted through the gloves and into the top corner.

Clarence would get a well deserved goal when Niko Giantsopolous had a moment I’m sure he would rather forget. Giantsopolous shanked a clearance straightht to Cody Snell, and the young 16 year old expertly chipped Giantsopolous to get his first NPL goal.

The game was a pretty dour affair from then on, and that was all she wrote as Launceston City ran out deserved 4 – 1 winners.
