SANFL in cooperation with the Mid West Football League conducted a seminar for umpires Umpires preparation for the season which begins on April 14
SANFL’s Country Umpiring Manager Paul Cavanagh and MWFL Commissioner Newton Luscombe provided their expertise to participants.
Paul Cavanagh ran a session concentrating on the basics and common sense aspects umpiring.
Knowing the rules, communicating with the players, positioning and controlling the game with authority and common sense played major roles in the presentation.
Commissioner Newton Luscombe spoke on the process of a Tribunal, highlighting how hearings work and an insight as to how umpires and officials play an important role in fair Tribunal outcomes.
Mid West president Matt Cook spoke on key league issues with Umpire Director Wade Shepperd coving the process of appointments and general operations for umpires.
Mid West is grateful to Paul and Newton for their input and also to those who participated in the evening. Mid West is always interested to hear from aspiring umpires. A great way to keep fit, enjoy the game of football from the best possible view point, and provide an important function within our game.
