Plenty of big results across round seven of the FQPL. The top five changed again as teams tussle for their place in the top half of the table.

Mitchelton | 2 – 3 | Southside Eagles

Eagles fly high in Mitchelton

Southside Eagles came from behind twice in a rollercoaster 90 minutes away from home against Mitchelton over the weekend. The home side took the lead early in the match, however nullified their early work after conceding an own goal just before half-time.

Mitchelton struck first after the break to regain the lead, however five minutes later an unbelievable 60 seconds saw the visitors net twice. First, the ball fell to Jordan Maxwell, who volleyed from outside the 18 yard box and the second arrived in the form of a Rhyan Scriggins header. The Eagles held on to take all three points, their first from an away fixture this season.

 

Peninsula Power | 8 – 1 | Wide Bay Buccaneers

Power too strong for Buccaneers

Peninsula Power have continued their perfect run in the FQPL after a big win against The Buccaneers in this top-verses-bottom clash. Power started the pressure early, and were rewarded when Richard Hurlin converted from the spot in the 26^th minute. The lead was doubled only minutes later courtesy of Thomas Strickland, however the visitors managed to pull one back to stay in the game. Oliver Smith bagged a third for The Power as the hosts went into the break 3 – 1 up.

The Power opened up in the second half and piled on goal after goal.  Oliver Smith bagged another four, taking five for the match. Matt Boyd also got his name on the sheet for the home team as Power inflicted the fifth straight defeat for the Wide Bay outfit.

 

Sunshine Coast Wanderers | 2 – 1 | Holland Park Hawks

Wanderers take down The Hawks

It was a third versus fourth encounter over the weekend as the Wanderers edged out the Hawks to go second on the table. The home side did it the hard way, coming from behind to take all three points at home to maintain their current undefeated season. The Hawks opened the account in the 29^th minute through captain Marek Madle and held the lead going into halftime.

The home side came out firing in the second half and pulled the match level just after the break when Kobe Fuller found the back of the net. Fuller bagged a second, late in the half, to secure the victory and hand The Hawks their second consecutive defeat.

 

Logan Lightning | 6 – 0 | Ipswich Knights

Lightning Strikes the Knights… six times.

It was another 6 – 0 defeat for The Knights, the second of this season and the third time they’ve conceded more than five goals in a match. A first half attacking blitz by the home side saw them score five times prior to the break. A hat-trick went to Lightning veteran Royce Brownlie, who took his first just two minutes in converting from the spot before bagging another two late in the first half.

Richard Greer finished off the scoring early in the second half, fortunately for The Knights, as it could have been worse with numerous chances were missed for the home side. The victory launches Logan into the top four, with The Knights remaining in 8^th spot.

 

Eastern Suburbs | 6 – 0 | Rochedale Rovers

Tigers return to slash Rovers

Eastern Suburbs FC made their long awaited return to the football pitch over the weekend playing their first fixture since the 17^th February 2018. The four week long break largely caused by wild weather, with a bye thrown in there for good measure. It’s had little meaning for the squad as they breezed past Rochedale at home. A Youeil Shol hat-trick, a brace to Jarod Lancaster and just the one for Abe Yango meant six was the magic number.

It was the first victory of 2018 for The Tigers, with surely many more to come as they look to catch up on their season. They travel to Perry Park in round eight to take on Southside Eagles in what is a local derby for the club.

 

Capalaba Bulldogs | Postponed | Souths United
John Frederick Park

Due to recent weather in Brisbane this fixture was postponed. The match is scheduled to play out on Tuesday 20^th March 2018.

 

Wolves FC – BYE

Wolves got the BYE this week and will travel to Rochedale to take on a Rovers outfit that will be determined to bounce back after the weekend’s disappointing performance against Eastern Suburbs.
