Tiarna Clarke's performances head latest college wrap

It’s been quite a week for Tiarna Clarke. The formerWestlake combo-guard enjoyed career nights in consecutive games to help Northern Colorado Bears (12-3 in the Big Sky Conference) to two wins. Clarke bettered her 19 points against Northern Arizona on Thursday by scoring 20 points against Southern Utah two days later. Across the two games she made 14 from 23 (61%) from the field and a more than useful 8 from 14 threes at 57%.

Two former Harbour players met when Jack Salt and newly crowned No 1 ranked Virginia Cavaliers visited Sam Waardenburg and Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday (US time) in an internationally televised encounter.

It was Virginia’s first game carrying the top ranking in NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball since December 1982 and after losing their last outing – an overtime defeat at the hands of Virginia Tech - ensured their would be no upset and prevailed 59-50. Salt finished with 2 points, an assist and a team high 7 rebounds whilst Waardenburg, who is enjoying increased court time for Miami, made 6 points (2/3 FG, 2/2 3PG) and claimed a steal.

Isaac Letoa hasn’t seen much court time recently but on Saturday he scored his first points in Ivy League play as Dartmouth Big Green went down to Yale 77-65. He finished with 2 points, an assist and a steal. Dartmouth are struggling a little this season, currently 2-8 in Ivy League fixtures.

Biola University Eagles had three games in six days last week recording a win and two losses. Alex Talma has been in a rich scoring vein of late posting consecutive hauls of 19, 21, 22, 19, 16 and 10 points during the last six games. Biola are 5-14 in the PacWest.

Brooke Blair produced 13 points (5/11FG), 4 rebounds and 3 assists to help Idaho State Bengals to an 83-71 home win against Sacramento State mid week. She was also in double figures with 11 points in a 72-64 win against Portland State on Sunday. The Bengals are 9-5 in the Big Sky Conference with four games to play.

A fourth double-double of the season from Tera Reed included a career best 16 rebounds to accompany 12 points. However it wasn’t enough to propel Virginia Commonwealth to the win as they slipped to 3-11 in Atlantic 10 Conference games after a 59-54 loss at Richmond.

Ella Fotu claimed a game high 4 steals for the second time this season as Hawaii Pacific Sharks claimed a 76-62 win against Notre Dame De Namur. Fotu also added 9 points and 5 rebounds.

The Sharks, ranked No 23 in NCAA Division II college basketball, followed that with an 83-72 win at Dixie State – Fotu had 4 points, 7 rebounds and a block in that one.

North Dakota State Wildcats Junior College, ranked 16th nationally, clinched their second straight conference title with back-to-back wins against Lake Region State (65-41) and Williston (76-30). Against Williston Olivia Bell finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds a block and a pair of steals. Georgia Perrott-Hunt had 3 points and 5 rebounds.

With the two wins the Wildcats (11-0) remain unbeaten in conference play and will host the Region XIII Tournament on March 3rd and 4th.

Not a bad effort from Katie Diakhaby for Northeastern Junior College this week. Over two games Diakhaby recorded a pair of double-doubles amassing 41 points and 37 rebounds in the process. Northeastern grabbed a brace of wins to move to 8-7 with one game remaining ahead of the conference play-offs.

Joel Coffey is the fourth former Harbour athlete currently playing in Junior College and he had a game high 3 blocks to accompany 7 points and 2 rebounds as State College of Florida defeated Rising Stars 86-68 for just their second conference win of the season.
