Round two saw some interesting results as a couple of clubs showed that they are ready to make an impact on the NPLW competition.

Bulldogs rocked by Jets

The Moreton Bay Jets avenged their narrow loss in week 1 by running the Capalaba Bulldogs ragged with a dominant second half display to take a 4-1 away victory.

This is the second loss in as many weeks for the Dogs who will travel up the range to take on SWQ Thunder.

Whilst there won't be panic at this stage, it's evident they will need some time to grow into the standard demanded by this competition.

Gators hold off the Roar

The big surprise of the weekend was the impressive form of Roar NTC.

Although they lost to The Gap, the 3-2 scoreline raised eyebrows as to the quality that they possess. They're fast, organised and consistent across the pitch.

It was only their inexperience that cost them the game as the Gators had to come from behind to nab the three points.

16’ – GOAL TO JORJA THOMSON – Brisbane Roar’s NTC side takes the lead. Anna Margraf takes the corner and Gap ‘keeper Noran Abaza tries to knock it away but makes poor contact. The ball falls to Thomson whose strike was not convincing but she did enough to score the opener.
23’ – YELLOW CARD TO TIARNE PETTERWOOD – Jorja Thompson is attacking for Roar NTC just outside the penalty box before Petterwood bumps her off the ball but the referee says it was too hard and shows the Gap player a yellow.
30’ – ROAR NTC SUBSTITUTION – Sharn Freier subbed on for Georgia Beaumont.
43’ – GOAL TO TALITHA DORO – The Gap level it at one a piece. Kim Abbot takes on a couple of Roar NTC players before feeding it to Zali Eason-Coutts. Eason-Coutts goes to cross to Ruth Blackburn but it beats everyone and falls to the feet of Doro who strikes it across the ‘keeper and into the bottom right corner.

58’ – GOAL TO ANNA MARGRAF – Margraf notices the ‘keeper is slightly off her line and strikes it over her and into the top right corner to put the Roar NTC back in front.
63’ – GOAL TO TIARNE PETTERWOOD – A long ball from Kim Abbott is weighted perfectly for Greta Bodey who crosses to Petterwood for the easy tap in. Scores level again at two apiece.
64’ – ROAR NTC SUBSTITUTION – Georgia Beaumont retakes the field as Charlotte Farmer is subbed off.

Mitchelton’s day at the Coast

Mitchelton continued their perfect start to the season with a 7-0 win away at Sunshine Coast Wanderers.

Fern Doyle scored in the first minute and the Wanderers were unable to get a foothold in the game.

The Mustangs are showing great early form and showing signs of gelling quicker than expected. The Wanderers will be better now that they've got the first game out of the way. Although, it doesn't get any easier for them with a trip to The Gap this weekend.

Pride hit their straps

Western Pride notched up double figures in their 11-0 win over Mudgeeraba.

This is a massive improvement from the Ipswich side when you consider that two weeks ago they drew 1-1 in a trial.

Mackenzie Macavoy came on in the 57th minute and helped herself to a hat trick. Scoring goals were such a problem for the Pride last year. Encouraging signs.

Gold Coast United wrapped up their first senior club victory with a 3-1 success over Eastern Suburbs.

Meg McElligott scored a double on the narrow Robina pitch in a confident display for the club.

United will be buoyed by that result as they go into this weekend as our live stream match when they take on Lions.

Our livestream game on the weekend was Souths against SWQ Thunder.

An even opening few minutes was brought to an abrupt halt as heavy rain, strong winds, power busting lightning and even hail forced players and spectators to seek shelter.

The match will be replayed Tuesday at 7.30pm.
