AFL Darling Downs today released the 2018 Allied Pickford’s Cup – Men’s fixture, which kicks off on April 21 with the Grand Final rematch between the reigning premiers USQ Cougars taking on the Goondiwindi Hawks.
Season 2017 saw six teams battle it out in division 1 with five going head to head in the division 2 competition. As the new season approaches, the Chinchilla SUNS, Dalby Swans, Highfields Lions, Lockyer Valley Demons and Warwick Redback’s will again be a-part of the region’s top flight competition.
Round 1 will see the return of five teams in the newly re-structure men’s competition.
The Allied Pickford’s Cup will return to the western downs as the SUNS host the Lions, with last year’s division 2 premiers the Dalby Swans travelling to WCU Oval to take on rivals the Warwick Redback’s. With cross town rivals Tigers and Bombers going head to head at Rockville Park and the Roos’ travelling to Kingaroy to take on the South Burnett Saints In round 1 action.
The 16-round home and away season, will see all teams play each other once and face four other teams twice based on ladder position from the previous season taking into account the Westpac Cup women’s fixture, to keep community clubs together. In an exciting change, all Allied Pickford’s Cup matches will be played at the traditional Saturday afternoon time-slot of 2:30pm.
The Grand Final has been locked for Rockville Park and will take place on Saturday 8th September.
A three week final series, seeing the top 4 teams play off for the Allied Pickford’s Premiership Cup and Tom Wills perpetual trophy. However, in a first teams that finish 5th to 8th will also continue throughout the final series keeping the Adrian Jericho perpetual shield alive.
