Yesterday we took a look at how the Harbour Men are progressing in college hoops this season. Today we take a look at the fortunes of the Harbour Women ehibiting their skills in the States.

A total of nine former Harbour representatives are performing with distinction in Women’s college basketball in the USA. Below is the mid term report on those nine.

Charlotte Armstrong
Year: Freshman
University: Barry University Buccaneers
Division: 2
Conference: Sunshine State

Armstrong suffered a minor back injury in early October that set her back a few weeks just as the Buccaneers were beginning their official practices which limited her opportunity for playing time early on. In addition to a limited build-up, she’s playing behind a senior all-conference post player.

However, Armstrong earned a few minutes in the last couple of games before the Xmas break picking up a rebound and an assist in the process.

 

Olivia Bell
Year: Freshman
College: North Dakota State Wildcats
Division: NJCAA Div 1
Conference: Region 13

Bell has joined Georgia Perrott-Hunt at North Dakota this season. The Wildcats are travelling well having won twelve of thirteen games since dropping their opening game of the season. Coming off the bench Bell is averaging 4.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

 

Brooke Blair
Year: Senior
University: Idaho State University Bengals
Division: 1
Conference: Big Sky

Blairwas due to complete her college career last season but she went down with an ACL injury in the opening game of the Bengals campaign. As a result the 2016 Tall Ferns final year at college was deferred to 2017-18.

The Bengals are 8-4 this season with the former Rangitoto standout averaging 14.0 points per game, leading their scoring, and shooting the three-ball at a career best 50% (29/58).

 

Tiarna Clarke
Year: Freshman
University: University of Northern Colorado Bears
Division: 1
Conference: Big Sky

Clarke played 78 minutes across the final two games the Bears played before a short Xmas break. Since then she has scored a season high 12 points in the Big Sky Conference road win at Idaho that has helped the Bears to a strong 10-3 start to the season.

The combo-guard is averaging 5.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game playing alongside Tall Ferns guard Krystal Leger-Walker.

 

Katie Diakhaby
Year: Sophmore
College: Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen
Division: NJCAA Div 1
Conference: Region 9

Diakhaby is enjoying a stellar season at Northeastern and is putting up the sort of numbers we remember her posting at Orewa College in 2015.

She leads the Plainswomen in scoring (16.6ppg), rebounding (10.3rpg) and shot blocking (1.6bpg). That rebounding number places Diakhaby in the top 25 Junior College players in the country and her shooting percentage of 56% (80/143 FG) in the top 40 nationally.

Northeastern are 1-3 in Conference play and 4-8 overall this season.

 

Ella Fotu
Year: Junior
University: Hawaii Pacific University Sharks
Division: 2
Conference: PacWest

Fotu is contributing across the statistical board for the Sharks that have made a fine 8-2 start to the season and Fotu has started in seven of those games. The former Rangitoto College guard averages 9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. In December Fotu equaled a Hawaii Pacific all-time record by blocking 6 shots in the 80-44 victory against Douglas College.

 

Zara Jillings
Year: Freshman
University: Fordham University Rams
Division: 1
Conference: Patriot League

One of three Kiwis at Fordham, Jillings has played in all 14 games for the Rams averaging 1.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per games as Fordham have built a decent 10-4 record over the first half of the season. Jillings, given her first start in the opening conference game on New Years Eve, scored a season high 9 points and added 7 rebounds and 3 assists in the win against George Washington.

The 2017 Tall Fern guard plays alongside Kiwis Kendell Heremaia from Waikato and Cantabrian Mary Goulding at Fordham.

 

Georgia Perrott-Hunt
Year: Sophmore
College: North Dakota State Wildcats
Division: NJCAA Div 1
Conference: Region 13

Perrott-Hunt has started all 14 games for the Wildcats who boast an impressive 12-2 record that leads them nicely into conference play early in the New Year.

Perrott-Hunt averages 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game and this season is playing alongside Olivia Bell another former Westlake forward.

 

Tera Reed
Year: Freshman
University: Virginia Commonwealth University Rams
Division: 1
Conference: Atlantic 10

Last but certainly not least Tera Reed is probably the major story in the opening half of the season where she has made an eye catching start to her career at Virginia Commonwealth (3-10).

Playing on a young team Reed has been afforded a start in all but one game played by VCU and has capitalized on her opportunities averaging 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game - the sort of numbers associated with senior players at the back end of their college careers, not a Freshman. Reed has scored double figures in all but two of the games including 22 points against Old Dominion in early December.
