The Volleyball Victoria office have currently received two submissions in regards to the 2018 State League. We are still willing to accept team entry proposals or submissions for dispensation to the by-laws with all submissions to be made by 9am Monday 15 January via email to Timothy Heathcote at events@volleyballvictoria.com.au
The two proposals that have been submitted and accepted are outlined below.
Phantoms to enter Women’s team in Premier division
In 2018 Volleyball Victoria are pleased to announce that on Volleyball Victoria’s recommendation the Board have voted to accept the submission of a Phantoms women’s team entering the Premier Division of the 2018 State League. In making the decision it was noted by Volleyball Victoria that as an established State League club Phantoms have proven their depth with both their women’s reserves and division two teams making finals in the last two years.
Volleyball Victoria also noted the following rules in making the decision
4.3 VV in its sole discretion has the right to determine whether individual Clubs and Club Teams are eligible to enter State League and has unlimited discretion to accept or reject entries.
4.4 Subject to Bylaw 4.5, the Premier and Reserves Divisions must comprise at least eight Teams. VV in its sole discretion has the right to allow for exemptions from Bylaw 4.4.
There will now be nine teams in the Premier women’s competition, however this is also the case in the men’s premier and as such will not create any major fixture issues.
Second Monash Reserves men’s team
On Volleyball Victoria’s recommendation the Board have voted to accept the submission of a second Monash team entering the Men’s Reserves Division in the 2018 State League.
The opportunity to enter a second Reserves team will be afforded to all clubs and judged on case by case basis. When considering proposals please note that Volleyball Victoria consider a club’s depth, continued success at the reserves and division 3 level and the long term sustainability of a second reserves team as the principal factors.
Monash Volleyball Clubs proposal, and any future proposals, was accepted with certain restrictions to be confirmed. The restrictions being considered include:
- Players can't transfer between teams in Reserves from Round 1 onwards
- Only one team can provide players to Premier division from the Reserves teams
- Players from Division 2 can go up into either Reserves team or each reserves team are linked to a specific Division 2 Team
- In Premier division there can only be one team per club
