Denhym Brooke and Brook Blair shine in latest US college games

Belated congratulations to Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans forward Denhym Brooke who last week was selected as the Hawaii Tribune-Herald Athlete of the Week. Brooke, a 6-7 forward, formerly of Rangitoto College, had a double-double against Concordia with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and he also had four blocked shots. He was perfect from the field against Biola and had 14 points. He missed only one total shot in the two games and was 11-12 from the field.

More recently the Vulcans went down 82-64 to local rivals Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.Brooke was one of only two Hilo players in double figures adding 3 rebounds and 3 blocks to 10 points.

Very few of the Men’s teams that feature Harbour players have been in action recently although Alex Talma did gather 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists for Biola Eagles in their 75-70 loss to Concordia. The Eagles are 5-5 for the season but 0-3 in PacWest Conference play.

Back in Hawaii Brooke Blair was the highest scoring player of the week. The shooting guard scored 20 points (7/11FG) as Idaho State Bengals won an exciting 64-62 overtime encounter against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The win snaps a two game losing streak and improves the Bengals to 6-3 for the season.

Blair is averaging 14.8 points per game and has scored in double figures seven times in nine outings this season.

Hawaii Pacific Sharks are 2-1 in PacWest Conference play after an 88-62 home win against cross-town rivals Chaminade. Ella Fotu played her part in the win with 9 points and 5 rebounds. The Sharks play four ‘friendlies’ over the holiday period before resuming Conference play in the first week of January.

Tiarna Clarke scored four points as Northern Colorado Bears lost a low scoring encounter with Colorado State 55-44.

Tera Reed returned 7 points and 3 rebounds as Virginia Commonwealth went down 79-62 to Radford.

In Junior College action Katie Diakhaby came up with 12 points and 13 rebounds for Northeastern College but the Plainswomen went down 66-58 to Trinidad State – the third straight loss for Northeastern. Heading into a three-week holiday break Diakhaby is averaging 16.5ppg, 10.3rpg and 1.6bpg for her team that have a 4-8 record.

Also entering a substantial break are North Dakota State who boast an impressive 12-2 record at the halfway point of the season. Georgia Perrott-Hunt has started in every game for the Wildcats averaging 3 points and 3 rebounds per game. Freshman forward Olivia Bell averages 4.3 points and 3 rebounds per game providing good minutes off the bench.
