The first ever Fiji National 3x3 Men’s and Women’s teams look strong and ready to ready to make their debut at the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu.

Laisiasa Puamau, Basketball Fiji’s Chief Operating Officer, said it’s something the Federation has been working towards since 3x3 was announced as an Olympic sport earlier this year.

“We were really excited to hear that by 2020 we will be seeing this fast and furious 3x3 format played in the Olympics and we had to be a part of that movement,” he said.

“We’ve put together a really strong side in both the men’s and women’s team and we hope they bring home some medals for Fiji.”

Kenneth Taliu, 3x3 National Men’s and Women’s team Manager, said the teams have been designed to be a mix of the Federation’s more experienced players and those younger players coming up through the ranks.

“We’ve used the Pacific Mini Games as an opportunity to give our younger players a chance to play and develop while being fully supported by our more experienced players,” he said.

“By having this mix, I have watched the teams come together and forge a strong bond, while also seeing the individuals grow as players too.

“The Pacific Mini Games are such a great opportunity for Fiji to showcase the amazing talent we’ve got. We’re really grateful to be here,” he said.

The 3x3 National Men’s Team consists of four players; Anare Tabuduka, Josh Uluiviti, Bryan Ah Jack and Esala Banuve.

The 3x3 National Women’s Team consists of four players; Lice Ravai, Mereleni Tora, Mafi Foiakau, Amalaini Raluvenitoga
