Seymour DJFNL President Donna Slevin stepped down from her role at the League’s AGM on Monday 4 December due to a work promotion relocating her family to Bendigo.
With Vice President Tom O’Dwyer and Secretary Deb Kaak also stepping down due to their children moving into senior sport the League was left without these positions being filled at the meeting.
Slevin identified that as a result of these vacancies the League hierarchy would move into caretaker mode under the eye of the AFL Goulburn Murray Commission until the clubs reconvene in February.
“I have only recently found out about the promotion so I guess it came as a bit of shock to clubs at the meeting” she said.
“One of the draft recommendations in the Commission’s Junior Review was for the governance of the League to handed over to AFL Goulburn Murray and we will now investigate this option in greater detail to understand how this will work.”
“Andrew Wright remains as Treasurer and Wayne Aldous as Statistician and we also welcome Sarah Cunningham as Netball Coordinator so there is a capable and functioning committee to work with the staff and the Commission over the next few months.”
“Tom and Deb have done a fantastic for the League over the past few years and I would personally like to thank them for their support and assistance.”
“Its been a very successful year for the League with the U10 competition really taking hold and having an eight team U16 competition is a great reflection of the work that clubs put in.”
“This season we welcomed new sponsors in Yenckens Mitre 10, NAB Agri Business, Menarock Aged Care and McDonalds Seymour to compliment the support of The Seymour Club and Seymour Toyota.”
“The Commission’s Junior Review has created plenty of discussion and we strongly encourage our clubs to submit their feedback to the Review so that it can be considered in the next stage of the process.”
“The other significant result from the AGM was the change in the netball age groups for season 2018 and the League will now run U11, U13, U15 and U17 age groups to bring our League into line with Netball Victoria programs.”
“Finally, I’ve loved my time with the Seymour DJFNL and would like to thank the clubs and AFL Goulburn Murray staff for the terrific work they do in managing both football and netball in the League.”
