Quentin Thomson, Freddo McMahon and Mick Williams were all re-elected unopposed to the GVL Board for another two year term at last night’s Annual General Meeting held at the Shepparton RSL.
Phil Friedlieb and Jacqui Thomson have both resigned from the Board with Friedlieb moving to Yarrawonga and Thomson’s changing work commitments preventing her from continuing.
As a result the Board will return to seven members after it was expanded to nine members as part of the GVFL and GVNL amalgamation.
GVL Chairman David Roff acknowledged the contribution of the Board members as a highlight amongst some significant achievements over the past 12 months.
“Phil has been a valued Board member over the past three years with his excellent financial and strategic knowledge” he said.
“And Jacqui played a great support role over the past 12 months in assisting with the amalgamation of the football and netball into the one entity.”
“There have been a number of other positives coming from this year with the League investing in important services for clubs by funding an online administrative service managing a club’s Working With Children and other qualifications as well as the Sports Chaplaincy Australia program.”
“The facilities grant program established after the sale of Dunkirk Avenue has been hugely successful with the $70,000 invested so far contributing to $417,000 of facility infrastructure development at seven clubs.”
“A further $50,000 is expected to be invested over the next year and this has been a fantastic initiative and a great spend of League money to support lasting legacies for the benefit of member clubs.”
“This investment has resulted in an overall operating loss for the League for the past 12 months but the League’s very strong financial position and its intent to assist clubs has been a driver in a number of key decisions.”
“Another key highlight for the year was the amalgamation of the GVFL and GVNL under the one banner. This process was seamless in its execution and has delivered us a new, modern and dynamic brand as well as a collective vision for the GVL overall.”
“I’m also pleased to announce the signing of a new three year administrative services agreement with AFL Goulburn Murray after unanimous support for the partnership from the clubs.”
“The partnership has grown significantly over the past three years, the new offices at Kialla Park are excellent and we will soon see the unveiling of a permanent home for our prestigious Hall of Fame.”
“2018 will see the introduction of a new 15&U netball age group which will strengthen our clubs and at the delegates meeting following the AGM the clubs unanimously supported the draft recommendation from the Commission’s Junior Review Project for a GVL U16 football division in 2019. This will be communicated to the Steering Committee as part of the League’s feedback.”
“Overall, we close the books on a significant year in the GV, wish all of our club volunteers, players and supporters a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to another big season in 2018.”
