If you ever wanted to show someone what the Western Region Football League is all about you would show them a video of the Darren Green Fundraising night at the Sunshine football club because it summed up what local footy is all about- people. Players, coaches, administrators and fans from other WRFL Clubs packed into the social club at Kinder Smith Reserve for a great night of entertainment but mostly to support a member of the WRFL footy community who is doing it tough. Since his accident Darren has not been able to work and that has made it very trying for his family. The WRFL Community responded with donations of auction items, organising fundraisers within their own clubs and bringing that money on the night. It was truly inspiring but really not surprising because that is what the people of the WRFL are all about. The Sunshine Football Club did a great job putting the night together and on their behalf and the Green family special thanks to Jordan Lewis and Jarryd Roughhead from Hawthorn, former World kickboxing champion Stan ‘The Man’ Longinidis, Melbourne Cup winning trainer John Saddler, comedian Gabriel Rossi, and former test cricketer Tony Dodemaide for giving their time to support Darren. Darren is on the road to recovery but he still has a long way to go.
