Inglewood adds defensive steel in Robertson

Report by Brett Klucznik, Inglewood United

Inglewood United have strengthened their defence with the signing of centre-back Scott Robertson.

Robertson becomes the first player to relocate to Inglewood this summer as coach Andy Keogh adds depth to his squad for the 2018 National Premier Leagues campaign.

“I’m absolutely delighted that I’ll be an Inglewood United player in 2018,” said Robertson, who helped Northern New South Wales club Broadmeadow Magic to place fourth last season.

“Inglewood is an ambitious club with big plans and I want to be a part of what’s going on here.

“Next season we’ll be aiming to win the league. The club has been desperately unlucky the last two seasons, almost winning the league both times, so there’s a real hunger to go that one better next year. Hopefully I can bring some quality to an already great team. I can’t wait to get started!”

The Perth-born 20-year-old played juniors with Whitfords City and ECU Joondalup, making his first team debut at the latter aged 16.

He spent four years in Perth Glory’s youth system before heading to New South Wales last year, when he played under former Socceroo Ruben Zadkovich at Broadmeadow.

“Ruben and I became quite close during our time at Glory, he was a great mentor for me during a difficult period of time,” Robertson said.

“Ruben and Andy (Keogh) are good mates and one night Ruben mentioned to him that I was back in Perth, and within a few minutes I had Andy on the phone.”

“There were a few other clubs in contact with me at that point but as soon as I spoke to Andy I knew I couldn’t turn him down. We met and he spoke about his and the club's vision, where they want to be and how they’re going to get there. I realised this was the best fit for me as a player, it just feels right.”
