The on-field results may not have gone their way but the Darling Downs girls took plenty away from the U17 State Championships this week.
Coached by Brisbane Lions All-Australian player Sam Virgo, the Darling Downs team featured the top 23 players in the region.
"The playing group lived and breathed our values of respect, communication and accountability, learnt everything from preparation to recovery and grew from the four-day championships,” AFLQ regional manager Jeff Neumann said.
"To have access to anyone from the elite level is fantastic and for our Darling Downs girls to have access over the four days and lead up to the states was second to none.
"Even our coaches developed and enjoyed having someone of Sam's calibre around.”

Captain Grace Bloomfield was awarded most valuable player for the Darling Downs team.
"She came from a soccer background and was very consistent at the state championships,” Neumann said.
"We're very luck across the region to have many talented players coming through. Everyone developed in some way and stood out at different stages.”
Neumann said female football continued to grow throughout Qld which showed at the state carnival.
"The Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS AFLW teams will be powerhouses for years to come,” he said.
He is looking forward to seeing the DD players continue to grow and develop.
