Three Harbour Players bound for Asia Cup in India
The New Zealand Under 17 Women’s team is en route to Bangalore, India ahead of the 2017 FIBA Women’s Asian Championships. The Championships will begin on Sunday October 22nd and double as the U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers. The top four teams will qualify for the World Cup to be played in Minsk, Belarus next year.
The New Zealand team contains three Harbour players Jordyn Maddix, Tayla Dalton and Tessa Talo-Tomokino. All three were members of the Harbour team that won the Under 17 Aon National Championship title earlier in the year – Dalton was named the MVP at that tournament.
Harbour coach Jody Cameron is part of the three team coaching panel travelling with the team.
New Zealand has been drawn in Group A alongside Australia, Korea and Chinese Taipei.
At the completion of pool play the Group A teams will cross over with the Pool B teams in the quarter-final match ups. Pool B is made up of three times champions China, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.
New Zealand will face Oceania rivals Australia in its opening game on Sunday October 22nd at 11am local time (6.30pm NZ time).
All games will streamed on FIBA’s social media channels.
This makes the games more accessible than ever before, especially with selective games also shown on Facebook.com/FIBA and Twitter.com/FIBA.
