Being a member of the Mustangs representative program involves a significant commitment, but is also a great opportunity to help young players to reach their potential in Basketball and build invaluable life skills and lifelong friendships.  MBA is seeking interested coaching applicants for the 2018 Junior representative season.

We are accepting applications for all junior coaching roles across all age groups:

U/12s Program – Boys and Girls in each of the following:

Div 1 Team Coach

Div 1 Assistant Coach

Div 2 Team Coach

Div 2 Assistant Coach

Technical Assistant

Maitland Basketball’s Development Manager Trevor Gallacher, will be the Program Head Coach for the U/12s Program (boys and girls combined).  The Under 12s will practice as a squad every week.

U/14s, U/16s & U/18s Program – Boys and Girls in each of the following:

Program Head Coach

Div 1 Assistant Coach

Div 2 Team Coach

Div 2 Assistant Coach

Technical Assistant

Position Descriptions

Each Age Group Head Coach will be responsible for the entire age group to which they are appointed, including:

• Team coach – Division 1 program
• Liaise with coaching director re the appointment of other coaches in your program.
• Supervision and guidance of Division 2 program, as required (this may at times involve combined practice sessions with both teams in an age group)
• Attendance at all Mustangs club days, and contribution to development and implementation of ONE MUSTANGS whole of club coaching program.

The Division 2 Head Coach will be responsible for:

• Team Coach – Division 2 Program
• Floor Coach at combined weekly age group training session, guided by Program Head Coach

 The Assistant Coach for each team will work under the guidance of the team coaches for all games and practice sessions.

The Technical Assistant is a new position in 2018.  Part of our player and coach development plan is to make use of video and communications technology to improve the quality of feedback that we can give players and teams around improving performance.  Technical assistant coaches will work with each team in their age group, under the guidance of the Program Head Coach.

Coaching Selection Criteria

All applicants will be considered against the following criteria:

• Basketball / coaching experience relevant to positions applied for
• Coaching development / education undertaken in the last 12 months
• Current / previous involvement with Maitland Mustangs Basketball Programs
• NCAS Coaching Accreditation level
• All applicants must have a valid WWCC to be eligible for appointment

Applications close at 9am, Sunday 15^th October.  Program Head Coaches, plus any suitable Division 2 Team Coach and Assistant Coaches will be announced not later than Friday 20th October.

Given the vital role of parent coaches in our representative programs, some Division 2 and Assistant Coach positions may be postponed until after finals team selections are complete.  However, any parents interested in taking on a coaching role are encouraged to complete a form to assist in preparing for these appointments.

MBA’s board will appoint a selection coach panel to work in collaboration with MBA Coaching Director Mark Wawszkowicz.  The selection panel will be responsible for making recommendations to the board on all coaching appointments.
