The inaugural Joanne Duncan Youth Girls Challenge Cup was played at Sunbury Lions Junior Football Club on Sunday between Sunbury and Melton Bloods. The first Youth Girls game to be played as part of the regular junior football fixture at Sunbury was well received by an enhanced crowd of interested onlookers. Many juniors came down early to cheer on their Youth Girls club mates, their first opportunity to do so since Sunbury joined AFL Victoria's Youth Girls ranks in 2006. Windy conditions greeted the teams as they played a hard running game that eventually saw the 2007 undefeated premiers, Sunbury, take the four points and another step towards having a shot at back to back flags. Sunbury Member of Parliament, Joanne Duncan, was on hand to award the inaugural cup whilst her Melton based counterpart, Don Nardella, was there cheering loudly for his Melton Youth Girls.
Final Score:
Sunbury 7-16-58
defeated
Melton Bloods 2-6-18
