FOOTBALL Nation Radio (FNR) is an exciting media initiative that will revolutionise how football people across Australia get their daily football news. Australia’s first and only 24 hour-a-day internet radio station dedicated to football, the Melbourne based concept will go live in October and right from the outset there will be a strong Geelong flavour involved.

Chris Appleford, a former media industry veteran who moved to Geelong 15 months ago and this year played for Breakwater Eagles in the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1 competition, has been revealed as one of the regular weeknight on-air presenters of the new online radio station.

Appleford, who took out the league’s Golden Boot jointly with two other players after scoring a total of 16 goals this season, will present no less than six hourly shows every Tuesday and Wednesday night.

“FNR is based out of Docklands and our studios have been newly built using the latest state-of-the-art technology,” explained Appleford, who also runs a personal training business out of Geelong’s Gym, one of the Breakwater club’s major sponsors.

“It’s a professional organisation backed by some impressive individuals who want to give football the media coverage it deserves.

“Ours will be a whole of game coverage from grassroots to the elite in Australia and overseas. We have commenced soft launch broadcasting on FNR before we go live.

According to Appleford, for him personally, it’s exciting to be back involved in radio.

“After several years on air at SEN (Melbourne AM sports radio station) with ‘The Four Diegos’, ‘Overnights’ and ‘The Gladiators of Sport’, it’s a real thrill to be back behind the mic. What’s even more exciting is that I get to talk about football, a sport I’m incredibly passionate about.

Once the station launches in October, Appleford will host Football Bosses, School of Football and Clubland on a Tuesday evening between 6-9pm, while The High Performance Show, The Winning Coach and Aussies Abroard will be presented in the same timeslot on a Wednesday evening.
