The Warwick Redback’s will go head to head with the Dalby Swans in the 2017 AFL Darling Downs Division 2 Men’s Grand Final from 12:45pm at Rockville Park.
An 11-2 record for the season, the Andrew Bardsley led Redback’s have been a formidable force throughout the home and away season and flexed their muscles in the Qualifying Final against the Swans a fortnight ago. It may have only been a 22-point margin but the way the Redback’s played in the second half and kept the Swans to only 1-point in the final term is what premierships are made of.
Dalby return to form with a comfortable 46 point win over the Highfields Lions in the Preliminary Final.
Whichever side wins, they will end a division 2 premiership drought. The last time Warwick won the title was back in 1998 against the then Kingaroy Bulldogs. For Dalby you need to go back even further in 1995 against the Goondiwindi Hawks.
Andrew Bardsley the 2017 Marj Shaw Medallist will be pivotal for the Redback’s as will Kristopher Millard and Nicholas Donges up forward. Alex Cutmore in the ruck along with Kai Best and Daniel Bowles will be key cogs for the Warwick machine.
For the Dalby Swans, some of their young stars in the Rockliff brothers, Brandon Peltz, Liam Rathman and Jake Schreiber will need to continue their current purple patch to ignite the Swannies to their first senior men’s premiership in over two decades.
