State Member for Macedon, Joanne Duncan MP has thrown her support behind a first for the Sunbury Football Club – Junior Division - the inaugural “Joanne Duncan Youth Girls Challenge Cup” to be played annually between the Sunbury Youth Girls and Melton Youth Girls Football Clubs.
The inaugural Cup will be played on Sunday 20 July at 10.30am at the Sunbury Youth Girls’ historic first home game at Boardman Oval, Sunbury during a regular home game day during the junior boys' fixtures.
Ms Duncan said It’s terrific to see girls enjoying their football and fantastic that Sunbury Junior and Melton Junior Football Clubs are supporting their “Youth Girls” teams to participate.
“I am thrilled to support this initiative that encourages girls to participate in football, and I hope all of Sunbury show their support for the “Youth Girls” team,” she said.
AFL Victoria Female Football Development Manager, Chyloe Kurdas said “whilst Sunbury and Melton are integral members of the Western Youth Girls Competition, eventually we would like to see an RDFL Youth Girls Competition and hope that Sunbury and Melton can lead the way in its establishment.”
Sunbury Youth Girls Coach, Michael Agrotis said our girls are really excited to be playing this game on our home ground, and in front of a home crowd, members, supporters family and friends. He said the playing for the Cup adds to this historic day, and our junior boys sides are also looking forward to cheer on their fellow club mates as well.
