NEWS: Battle for league title to go down to the wire in Women’s Div 1
THE BATTLE to capture the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 league title is likely to come down to the last round, with both competition leader Drysdale and second placed Deakin Ducks each facing the two bottom sides in the penultimate round this weekend.
Drysdale is at home to bottom side Geelong on Saturday at Howard Glover Reserve (3pm), while across town Deakin Ducks host second last placed Barwon Heads at Deakin University in Waurn Ponds (3pm).
With both teams expected to win their respective matches, the season is likely to be decided on the final day when Drysdale takes on Surf Coast away and Deakin also tackles Geelong away.
In other Round 17 fixtures, 6th placed Surfside Waves host 5th placed Barwon at Shell Road Reserve on Friday night (6:30pm), while 4th placed Kardinia will need a win to stay ahead of Barwon for the final play-off spot, when it hosts 3rd placed Surf Coast at Kardinia International College on Saturday afternoon (1:00pm).
