Basketballer come footballer, Nicholas Nugent has taken home the 2017 Under 14 Col Wells Medal beating University Cougar Nicholas Maxwell by 1-vote.
The Col Wells Medal goes to the fairest and best player in the Under 14 AFL Darling Downs McDonald's Shield competition. The adjudicating umpires for the match, record who they think were the fairest and best at the conclusion of each match.
Nugent capped off a consistent year, receiving the maximum three votes, seven times and three lots of two votes.
University's Maxwell, looked to have the Medal all wrapped up by three best on ground performances in the last four rounds saw Nugent bounce to the lead and claim the Col Wells Medal by a very slender 1-vote.
