Highfields Lion Under 12's player Henry Sheath has claimed the 2017 Peltz Medal by a slender 1-vote, after storming home in the second half of the home and away season.
The Peltz Medal is awarded to the fairest and best player, in the Under 12 AFL Darling Downs McDonald's Trophy competition. Votes are recorded by the field umpires at the conclusion of each match, giving 3 votes to the best on ground, 2 and 1 votes also.
Sheath recorded the maximum votes in Round 3 (Vs. Dalby), Round 8 (Vs. Toowoomba), Round 9 (Vs. Toowoomba), Round 11 (Vs. Dalby) and Round 15 (Vs. University). He also collected two lots of 2-votes against University (Round 5) and South Toowoomba (Round 14).
Sheath didn't receive any votes, when playing against Warwick-Lockyer.
The Peltz Medal vote count, was close from start to finish with eventual runners-up Zimra Hassan and James Potter (Universtiy Cougars) leading the way up until Round 10. Sheath stormed home with 8-votes in the last 5 rounds to claim the 2017 Peltz Medal.
