AFL Darling Downs have confirmed, that three venues will host finals action in week 1 and the home of Australian Football, will host week 2 and 3.
The University Cougars will host four matches at their Bakers Street Oval, with finals footy returning to USQ for the first time in years. The Allied Pickford’s Cup – Division 1 men’s blockbuster between the Cougars and Coolaroo will be from 2:00pm, prior to the senior men’s will be all three McDonald’s Juniors Qualifying Finals to be played from 9:00am between University and Highfields-Coolaroo.
Those respective teams meet in each of the days junior action at Baker Street.
Lyle Vidler Oval will host two senior matches with the Allied Pickford’s Cup and Westpac Women’s Elimination Finals entertaining the Kingaroy community. South Toowoomba will meet the South Burnett Saints in the Westpac Women’s and country rivals South Burnett and Goondiwindi will go head to head in the men’s fixture from 3:00pm.
Westpac Women’s, minor premiers the Toowoomba Tigers have earnt their club the rights to host the remaining finals matches. It will be a super Saturday of finals footy, with six matches of both Qualifying and Elimination Finals in full swing. All three McDonald’s Juniors Elimination Finals kick-start the day followed by a Division 2 men’s double header and the Tigers women finishing the day off under lights against Dalby.
AFL Darling Downs President, Heather Green said she is excited about the upcoming finals series and that these will be one of the most highly contested finals series the region will see.
“Finals footy is always an exciting time for all involved and to have finals football at three venues, is even more exciting,” AFLDD President Heather Green said.
“We believe this will be one of the closest finals series yet, from our Under 12 McDonald’s Trophy to the Allied Pickford’s Cup.
“Finals footy returns to Kingaroy and we are expecting a massive crowd at Lyle Vidler along with Rockville and USQ Ovals,” President Heather Green added.
With 1 round to go in the Division 2 men’s competition, this coming weekend, all other competitions have this weekend off and week 1 of finals will all start on Saturday 26th August. The Preliminary Final and Grand Final, will be held on Saturday 2nd and 9th of September respectively.
