Drysdale was given a major scare in its clash at home to 7th placed Barwon SC, eventually taking all three competition points thanks to a lone Louise Riley goal.
Meanwhile, at Kardinia International College in Bell Post Hill, a brace by Ashlee Stavenuiter wasn’t enough to get the home side over the line as the visiting Deakin managed three goals to escape with the vital three points.
Imogen Pratt notched a double to bring up her 14th goal of the season and move her into 4th spot on the leading goalscorers’ chart, while Lena Mungenast was the scorer of the other Deakin goal.
Lora Symonds and Amelie Ciuffetelli got amongst the goals at Grovedale Reserve on Saturday, as their Surf Coast FC ran out 2-1 winners over a fighting Barwon SC for whom Olivia Parrington scored the only goal. It was Parrington’s 10th goal of the season.
In the only other Round 15 fixture, Surfside Waves defeated Geelong 1-0 on Friday night at the Shell Road Reserve in Ocean Grove. In a close encounter, Steffi Wallace scored the match winner in the 84th minute.
All roads will lead to Deakin University’s Sports Fields in Waurn Ponds, this Saturday afternoon, when Drysdale come to the Pond looking to open up a seemingly unassailable five point gap at the top. The Duckettes, however, will have other ideas as they aim to keep their dream of back to back titles alive.
