CLAREMONT has ended a nine-game losing streak to upset second-placed South Fremantle to win by 10 points the WAFL's NAIDOC Week feature match, the Jimmy Melbourne Cup, at Fremantle Oval at the weekend.
The Tigers were point 39 points in arrears deep in the second term but produced a remarkable turnaround in the second half, booting 11 goals to 4 and surviving a frenetic final quarter to secure just their third win this season.
Claremont won the game 14.14 (98) to 14.4 (88).
South Fremantle, whose tradition of Aboriginal football is among the strongest in the WAFL, fielded a host of Indigenous footballers and were led by skipper Toby McGrath.
While South Fremantle wore an identical version Indigenous theme jumper for the game, Claremont wore a reverse yellow-on-navy blue version of last year's guernsey.
