With five of the six AFL Darling Downs competitions home and away seasons coming to an end this weekend, those clubs pencilled in the top four of their respective competitions switch to finals mode.
The Division 2 Men’s competition still has two rounds to complete, while after this weekend all the finals bound McDonald’s Juniors, Westpac Women’s and the Allied Pickford’s Cup teams will enjoy a weekend off before the three week finals series.
Across the five competitions finishing up this weekend, University Cougars have confirmed that they will be the minor premiers in the Under 12’s McDonald’s Trophy, Under 14 McDonald’s Shield and if results go their way in the Under 16 McDonald’s Cup and Division 1 Men’s Allied Pickford’s Cup the Cougars can add4 minor premierships to the clubs accolades.
The two-time reigning premiers, the Toowoomba Tigers have also locked away another minor premiership crown in the Westpac Women’s competition.
Week 1 – Saturday 26th August @ venue t.b.a
- Qualifying Final (QF); 1st place versus 2nd place
- Elimination Final (EF); 3rd place versus 4th place
Week 2 – Saturday 2nd September @ Rockville Oval
- Preliminary Final (PF); Loser of QF versus Winner of EF
Week 3 – Saturday 9th September @ Rockville Oval
- Grand Final; Winner of QF versus Winner of PF
Venue for week 1 of finals, are still to be determined, as the final makeup of the Allied Pickford’s Cup will decide where matches are played. If the ladder stays as is, the University Cougars will host the qualifying finals and Coolaroo would host the elimination finals.
If a venue is unable to host all six matches, then the top finishing Westpac Women’s team and/or third placed side would host matches.
