The goals for the latest rising star nominee are very simple as the Goulburn Valley League season draws to a close for Kai Madgwick.
The Mooroopna youngster would love his beloved Cats to pick up two more wins to close out 2017.
It is certainly not out of the question for the Cats, with fixtures against the Shepparton Swans and Shepparton United in the final few weeks of the year.
“If we can play consistent footy and maybe win a couple more games it will help us build on where we want to head next year,” Madgwick said.
After graduating from the Auskick program and junior teams at the club, Madgwick, who is still eligible for thirds football, showed his talent very early when he debut as a 15-year-old against Seymour last year.
Although admitting to feeling very nervous, he said his first game was made that little bit easier when he lined up alongside good friend Laithen Vandermeer.
It didn’t stop him from feeling very overwhelmed.
“The pace was so quick while the bigger bodies were very noticeable,” he said.
“When you got tackled it hurt more than what it did in thirds football.”
After playing four games last year, Madgwick has featured in the team every week this year, including in the two wins against the Swans and Echuca.
“When we beat the Swans everyone was up and about, but it actually nearly felt better when we beat Echuca because everyone thought we were going to get beat by 10 goals,” he said.
With the Cats to be spectators during September, Madgwick says he is keen to working on getting bigger and stronger in the off-season.
