Fiji stun Sri Lanka to secure a shot at the top 5

BENGALURU (FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017 - Division B) – Team Fiji faced up against Sri Lanka in their 4th game of this year’s event.

Mili Koyamainavure has been featuring heavily in Fiji’s offense and would be relied upon again tonight for Fiji to qualify for the 5th place playoff game.

The game was extremely close throughout, the biggest lead either team held was a mere 10 points. The game went back and forth until the final buzzer, Fiji managed to put together an amazing final quarter and pull out a 64-65 win over Sri Lanka.

Koyamainavure was outstanding on the offensive end once again contributing 22 points. She wasn’t alone with Tiyana Kainamoli scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while Bitila Tawake had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

This marks Fiji’s first win of the event and qualifies them for the Division B 5th placed game against Singapore on Saturday 29th of July at 6:30pm (Fiji time).

Fiji will be looking to exact revenge on Singapore after their loss in the very first game of the event. Once again, Fiji will be relying on the scoring punch of Koyamainavure combined with a good team effort like what got them over the line in tonight’s clash.

Fiji could make history if they are able to overcome Singapore as they will finish 5th in their first ever FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. Be sure to tune into the live stats and live blog to support team Fiji.
