As announced at a GoTafe Goulburn Valley League Delegates meeting on Wednesday 26 July, the venues for this year’s finals series have been confirmed.
On Saturday September 2, an Elimination Final will be played at Tatura Park, whilst as previously announced, the Qualifying Final will make history at Mooroopna as the first final ever to be played under lights. The other Elimination Final will be played at Benalla on Sunday September 3.
A Semi-Final will be hosted by Rochester on Saturday September 9, with Euroa hosting the other Semi-Final on Sunday September 10.
As has been the case for many years, both the Preliminary Final and Grand Final will be held at Deakin Reserve Shepparton on Sunday September 17 and Sunday September 24 respectively.
Whilst the venues and dates have been confirmed, the actual Elimination and Semi-Finals held at each venue will be decided at a later date.
GoTafe GVL Chairman David Roff is excited by this upcoming historic finals series.
“The Board committed many months ago to playing a night final in 2017, and this decision was well publicised” he said
“We hope that by playing a day and night final within close proximity on the same day, will help to alleviate the ongoing issue of clubs being separated, often by long distances, during the first weekend of finals”
“We eagerly await the feedback from clubs following this change in finals formatting, which may prove to be a long-term fix to this issue.”
“There is always a lot of planning leading into the finals series and by confirming these venues, the League and the host Clubs can now ensure this planning is commenced”, Roff added.
In a change from recent years, this year’s Morrison/Wellman Family Medal count will be held at the Shepparton RSL Club, the League’s Official Function Partner, which will be held on Monday September 18.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Shepparton RSL and hope this becomes a long term relationship”, stated Roff.
